Belarus targets 100 industrial robots per 10,000 workers by 2030 under new economic strategy

Belarus has announced plans to raise the density of industrial robots to 100 units per 10,000 employees by 2030, marking a significant acceleration of its industrial modernisation agenda, as reported by
Belteleradiocompany, a partner of TV BRICS.

The goal forms part of the country’s 2026–2030 socio-economic development programme, where robotisation has been formally designated as a strategic priority. According to First Deputy Economy Minister Ivan Vezhnovets, automation will play a decisive role in reshaping production models and strengthening long-term competitiveness.

Globally, around 4.7 million robots are currently deployed across industries, alongside the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing systems. Belarusian authorities argue that participation in this technological shift is no longer optional.

The minister emphasised that robotisation is not solely about saving labour resources. It also requires higher precision in components, stricter supply chain discipline and a fundamental rethink of industrial policy.

“Automation changes the very approach to organising production,” he said, noting that conveyor-based processes demand standardisation, exact tolerances and consistent quality control. As digital technologies are introduced more widely, enterprises are expected to overhaul technological workflows and adopt advanced manufacturing standards.

As part of the broader efficiency drive, the Ministry of Economy has jointly developed a lean manufacturing certification framework with national standardisation authorities. The initiative aims to promote streamlined processes, reduce waste and enhance productivity across industrial enterprises.

Recent assessments by the Eurasian Economic Commission indicate that Belarus is not yet among the leading performers within the Eurasian Economic Union in terms of robot density.

Current statistics show that Belarus operates approximately 13 industrial robots per 10,000 employees. Comparable figures stand at 10 in Kazakhstan and 35 in Russia.

The planned increase to 100 robots per 10,000 workers by the end of the five-year period represents a substantial expansion. Authorities intend to pursue progress through multiple channels, including participation in supranational support mechanisms within the Eurasian Economic Union framework.
